Nardagani Teaches Middle School Readers in Buhl, Idaho

For the 2020 school year, lead by Sandra Bosteder MHE, MPEAA, the Nardagani Reading Program is being taught at Buhl Middle School in Buhl, Idaho. Bosteder is also pointing the companion academic study and Nardagani company is thrilled to support both the Buhl School District and their students at Buhl Middle School.

“There are over 125 sixth grade students in the pilot program/research study. They were pre-tested with a standardized test the first week of school. Because of COVID-19, the teaching is slower than usual, and reading class is meeting fewer times a week. By late November they will have completed the Nardagani course and be ready for post-testing,” Narda Pitkethly expands.

While Bosteder’s primary motivation in using Nardagani is to eradicate reading challenges, the Nardagani team is optimistic regarding the conclusions of the Buhl study. Sandra recognizes the emotional and mental disconnect felt by students when state and national education standards seem unattainable for vast numbers of students. Wanting to eliminate that disconnect, Sandra has joined the team and believes the Nardagani Program is foundational to bridging the chasm between school districts with disproportionately low literacy ratings and those with proficient or outstanding ratings.

The Nardagani method uses 12 simple symbols, which are like training wheels on a bicycle. There are 26 letters in the English language. 12 say their name, 14 don’t make multiple sounds and 17 letters are sometimes silent. Using these 12 symbols placed under letters to help "sound them out," the Nardagani program helps eliminate the guesswork involved in reading. Once students learn the meaning of each symbol, they can see at-a-glance how the letter and word should be pronounced. By the end of the program, readers are able to read even when the symbols are taken away.

Through programs such as the one in Buhl, Idaho,  Nardagani continues to grow. Of course, the company continues to support Narda’s initial ideas to make learning to read simple and fun. The Nardagani Reading program also seeks to work with and help other organizations that share its mission.
